Case Study: How We Helped a Client Source a Customized Packaging Line

Solving the "impossible" customization request for a growing beverage company.

At Zhenbao Trading, we don’t just sell machines; we solve problems. To illustrate how we work, we want to share the story of a recent client (let’s call them “Client X” to protect their privacy) in the beverage industry.

The Challenge

Client X was launching a new line of uniquely shaped juice bottles. They needed a complete Filling, Capping, and Labeling Line.

They faced three major hurdles:

  1. Unique Bottle Shape: Their bottle was square with an offset neck. Standard machines in China are built for round bottles.

  2. Budget Constraints: European machines that could handle this shape were quoted at $150,000—way over budget.

  3. Integration: They needed the filler to talk to the labeler, but the machines were likely coming from different suppliers.

The “Factory Direct” Failure

Client X tried to find a supplier on Alibaba. Most factories either said “No” to the square bottle or demanded a huge customization fee. One factory agreed but refused to guarantee the labeling accuracy.

The Zhenbao Solution

Client X approached Zhenbao Trading. Here is how we tackled the project:

Step 1: Broad Sourcing & Engineering Review

We didn’t just look for “filling machines.” We looked for factories specializing in servo-driven systems, which are flexible enough to handle odd shapes. We narrowed it down to two potential manufacturers in Jiangsu and Guangdong.

Step 2: Custom Mould Engineering

We negotiated with the factory to produce a set of custom “pucks” (holders) that would stabilize the square bottles as they moved through the line. We translated the client’s 3D CAD drawings for the factory engineers.

Step 3: The Integration Test

We sourced the Labeling Machine from a different specialist factory. Instead of shipping them separately, we paid to have the Labeler shipped to the Filler factory in China. We set up the full line in China. We ran 5,000 of the client’s bottles through the combined system to ensure the timing was perfect.

The Result

  • Total Cost: The final landed cost was roughly $65,000—less than half the European quote.

  • Performance: The line runs at 4,000 bottles per hour with 99.8% labeling accuracy.

  • Simplicity: The client received one invoice, one shipment, and one point of contact for support.

Conclusion

Customization doesn’t have to be expensive or risky. It just requires a partner who understands engineering as well as trade.
